Thirty Years in a Kitchen

I'm Jeanne Scott — baker, designer, and the whole of Mill Stream Farm BakeStudio.

Mill Stream Farm BakeStudio began in 2008 at farmers markets and festivals across both Shores: years of early mornings, folding tables, and finding out what people actually come back for.

In 2017 I created my first wedding cake, and the community demand was instantaneous; that began the shift toward the wedding industry, and that focus has proven to be the perfect fit!

The cake is the job. it isn't all of it.

People assume my work begins and ends with baking. It doesn't.

After enough weddings, you learn how a day fits together.

When the cake should be cut and why the timing matters. What a barn in August does to buttercream that a hotel ballroom doesn't. Where the cake table should sit so it photographs well and doesn't strand your guests in a queue. Which decisions can wait and which ones can't.

I'm not your planner and I won't pretend to be. But I've watched several hundred wedding days unfold from the dessert end of the room, and if something I know would help you, I'll say so.

The Bakestudio

Where We'll Sit Down

The BakeStudio is just outside Denton. It's where everything is made, and it's where tasting consultations happen.

You'll sit at a table with three or four of my most popular cake and buttercream combinations in front of you, plus two built to your own specifications. We'll talk through tiers, texture, flowers, colors, what your venue is like, what you've been picturing. It usually runs longer than anyone expects, in a good way.

Most couples decide before they leave. I've never been sure whether that's the cake or the afternoon, and I've stopped trying to separate them.

What I didn't expect is how long people stay. A couple books a wedding cake, and a year later it's the first anniversary, then a gender reveal, a baby shower, a first birthday, then another first birthday. I have families I've been baking for across a decade of milestones now, and I'll get a text with a photo attached and know exactly what it means before I open it.

Mill Stream Farm BakeStudio is named for the place, but I built it for my family, and the families I bake for keep getting folded into it.

Our Cake style

Simple, Elegant, and Done Properly

My favorite cakes are the restrained ones. Clean lines, considered proportions, a few good details rather than many competing ones. Timeless over trendy — I'd rather your cake look right in a photograph in twenty years than clever in one this season.

Everything is made from scratch. Real butter, real vanilla, American buttercream, nothing ordered in and nothing shortcut. That's not a marketing position, it's just how I was taught and how I still do it.

If that's the outcome you're after, we'll get on well.
